A symptom is not a diagnosis

Possible cancer symptoms are often caused by other conditions. If an unusual change lasts for a couple of weeks, returns, or worries you, speak with a qualified clinician.

Possible sign

New lump or swelling

A new lump, firm area, or unexplained swelling should be assessed—especially when it persists or changes.

Possible sign

Unusual bleeding or bruising

Bleeding or bruising without a known reason deserves professional evaluation. Do not use a website to self-diagnose.

Possible sign

A change that does not go away

Lasting bowel or bladder changes, cough, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or a sore that does not heal are reasons to contact a clinician.

Possible sign

Unexplained body changes

Unexplained weight change, severe lasting fatigue, night sweats, or skin and mouth changes can have many causes. Get persistent changes checked.

Important distinction

Early action matters

If a change persists or worries you, seek qualified medical advice. Appropriate next steps depend on age, risk, history, and clinical guidance.

Common questions

Start with facts, not fear.

Is a lump always cancer?

No. Lumps and swelling have many possible causes. A new or changing lump should be assessed by a qualified clinician rather than diagnosed online.

Should I diagnose myself from a symptom list?

No. Use reliable information to prepare questions, then seek professional advice. Persistent or worrying changes deserve a calm, timely conversation with a clinician.

What should I do if a change persists?

Contact a qualified medical professional. For an emergency, call 108 or 102. EndTheCancer information cannot diagnose cancer or replace clinical care.

The 2026 focus for schools

Oral cancer and tobacco

India carries one of the highest burdens of oral cancer in the world, and it is among the most preventable. That is why high school material stays close to this, on guidance from the Taluka Health Officer, Kumta.

Changes worth showing a doctor

  • A mouth ulcer or sore that has not healed in three weeks
  • A white or red patch inside the mouth that does not go away
  • A lump or thickening in the cheek, gum or neck
  • Difficulty opening the mouth fully, or trouble chewing
  • Numbness, or a persistent unexplained pain in the mouth
  • A voice change or trouble swallowing that keeps coming back

Any one of these usually turns out to be something ordinary. None of them means cancer on its own. They are simply reasons to get checked rather than wait.

What actually helps

  • Not starting is the whole win

Most tobacco use begins in the school years. A student who never starts gutka, khaini or cigarettes removes the single biggest avoidable risk for oral cancer.

  • Chewing tobacco is not the safer option

Gutka, khaini, pan masala with tobacco and areca nut all carry real risk. Smokeless does not mean harmless.

  • Notice, then ask

A mouth change that lasts more than three weeks is worth showing to a doctor or dentist. Most turn out to be something else, and finding out early is the point.
